Synthesis, characterization and quantum chemical modeling of functional materials

 

The Steinberg Group uses both experimental as well as quantum chemical techniques to explore the following fields of solid state chemistry:

• Development of intermetallic compounds whose crystal structures comprise low-dimensional units
• Characterization of the materials' properties of the synthesized compounds through, for instance, determinations of the crystal structures, electrical conductivity, magnetism
• Determination of the electronic as well as vibrational properties of the synthesized compounds
• Development of (quantum chemical) procedures to forecast the materials' properties with special regard to the presence of electronic instabilities
